Michoacan de Ocampo Mexic

The Free and Sovereign State of Michoacán de Ocampo is one of the 32 federal entities of the Mexican Republic. It is located in the western central area of the Mexican Republic. With an area of 58,599Km2, it represents 3.0% of the national territory. Its capital is the city of Morelia and is divided into 113 municipalities. The word Michoacán comes from the Nahualt voice "mich-huac-an", which is formed from the root "michín", fish; particulate "huac", possessive of place; and the "an" ending, place; which is interpreted as "place of those who own the fish" or simply "fishermen's place". The meaning of the word is attributed to the fact that, the first pre-Hispanic populations, were built around the lakes of Pátzcuaro, Zacapu, Cuitzeo and Zirahuen.
